About this tool
This free BMI calculator gives you your Body Mass Index in seconds. Enter your height and weight in metric units or use a converter for imperial values, then read your BMI together with the standard weight category and the healthy range for adults.
BMI is the most common screening index used worldwide. It is a quick way to track whether your weight is in a healthy band, and it works in any country — the same categories (underweight, normal, overweight, obese) are used by the WHO, CDC and NHS.
FAQ
What is a healthy BMI?
A BMI between 18.5 and 24.9 is considered a normal or healthy range for most adults. Values below 18.5 are underweight, 25–29.9 overweight, and 30 or above indicate obesity.
How is BMI calculated?
BMI = weight in kilograms divided by height in meters squared. For example, 70 kg at 1.75 m gives 70 / (1.75 x 1.75) = 22.9.
Is BMI accurate for everyone?
BMI is a screening tool, not a direct measure of body fat. Athletes and pregnant people may get misleading scores, and it does not replace advice from a healthcare professional.
